Armistice event activation

The activation started well, however I've worked mainly JA station and smattering of US and other DX.  Sunday was a bit messy since there were Ukrainian, US Sweepstakes and High speed CW test at the same time.   However I've managed to have a good run for a time.

The the storm intervened that made the bands bare on Monday.   Tuesday was just that little slow time as well.

The A of 35 slowed things down.  On Tuesday we were hit by stormy WX and I had to unplug everything for most of the day.

Wednesday morning made up for two days of frustrations.  Had a very good run to EU o 40 m.  The band opened for over an hour and kept me busy.  Nice.

Above is RBN chart of activity for my activation

I'm sure we highlighted for the world the VK Armistice action.

Oceania SSB and CW contests 2018

I do prefer the CW part of the contest, however I felt obligated to "play" little in the SSB section too.

Conditions were not great at all. Also had problem with my wire antenna and my vertical. Both wrecked by strong wind/storm about ten o'clock local time. I could not use the lower bands until daybreak when I was able to repair the damage. Forty meters was the band where the action was. The feeling is that not many stations participate. When the bands were open/running the signals were good. 40 m VK stations signals were awesome. Thank you JA stations for giving me a call on 10 m. Thank you all US and JA station for calls on 15 and 20 m. The highlight was a 109 Q's run on LP EU. Lasted short time, but it was fun. The boys at E6Y were working hard the whole 24 hrs. Yes it was mixture of frustration and fun overall. 73 all de Patrick VK2PN
This is the crack in the tree which broke my wire antennas.

The only glimpse of fun was a high rate EU LP.

Visiting Europe June July 2018

Just realized that I've neglected the blog for a long time.  In meantime Heidi and I visited Europe (seven weeks of fun and hard work).  The first stop I should mention was Fridrichshafen the world famous Amateur radio fair.

The halls look deceptively small from the outside.
Inside were hundreds of displays.

Entrance

I was recognized and welcomed by the boys of
CDXC.

Some of the guys I've met have great memory for calls.  Way beyond my ability.

Very pleased to meet Eric WA6HHQ one of the principals of Elecraft.

I love my Elecraft radios.  (have three of them)

Eric and Gary were kept busy explaining and demonstrating their product.

The newest addition to the Elecraft range:
1.5 kW solid state.

The famous and most expensive Amateur radio Transceiver.

Had the pleasure to meet Pietro Begali of the Begali paddles.  Pietro and I had several CW QSOs in the past.  It was great to meet him in person.

This is the latest model.  You can use it as iambic paddle and or small flick of a mechanical switch you have single lever paddle.  Cool.  It was so impressive that I almost got it on the spot.  But we had still six weeks of traveling and my suitcase was heavy to start with.

Con, owner of Spiderbeam is nice man.  I was the first VK to buy his Spiderpole and  Spiderbeam.

We used Spiderbeam during the VK9PN Lord Howe expedition.
We had great signal.

Meeting Gianfranco I0ZY owner of SPE Expert amplifiers was great fun.  Chris VK2YY and I had lot of fun talking to him and I'm sure he enjoyed himself as well.  We all had lots of laughs.

Here Gianfranco demonstrates a combiner.  You can combine power output of two smaller amplifers into one antenna.  I.e.  Big output for a modest outlay (two smaller amps cost less than one big beast).

Felow hams from VK6.  They told me that they vist Friedrichshafen and Dayton every year.  Nice.

Even Heidi found something interesting.

The results of the Commonwealth contest were published.

As I member of the team Australia 2, I was quite pleased with the result.
